Not just this board, but the IWC in general.

Like, has having all of this "insider knowledge" ruined it for you?

One of the reasons the AE was so good for us back then was because for the most part we didn't know what was going on backstage so the product seemed a lot more fresh.

But now with all of "insider knowledge" people have, I wonder if it has soured others on the show.

Like would people hate Roman Reigns as much if they didn't know that he was being "pushed" by WWE to be the top guy or what have you?

Might have worstened my attention span to watch a little bit but that's it. WWE is a niche interest. I'm personally not embarrassed by it but no one close to me "gets it". I actually don't personally know anyone who watches weekly. I've turned a couple girlfriends into snarks but they're more tolerating my interest than being interested. This is the only place where I speak to people who "get it".

I guess, but I mean, the internet has kind of "exposed" everything. TV shows, movies, video games, comic books, etc. There's constantly spoilers and set leaks and all kinds of information about everything out there.

And yeah, some people will say "Don't look! Don't read it! Stay off the internet!", and maybe that's reasonable for some people. But the internet is too much of everyone's lives, at this point, and I, along with many others, have a hard time resisting the temptation to find out "insider information" if and when it's out there.

Long story short, the internet kind of "ruined" everything, because it circulates information about everything. It just is what it is.

Ultimately, with the internet, somebody would've spilled the beans eventually.

That said, I HATE knowing that wrestling isn't "real". I wish I could believe again. It's just not the same.
Southernfatman 1 week ago#17
No, shitty bookers/promoters ruined wrestling. Everyone knows wrestling isn't real, I know, but you don't have to keep admitting that on the wrestling programs and slap us in the face that it's only a performance. And thank god for the internet cause there's tons of good stuff you can find out there because of it.

I do hate modern day smark crowds/fans though.

No. In fact, the PWB is probably the one community I associate myself with that I can say I enjoy the most simply because it always maintained a down to earth attitude and critical, unbiased stance of the shitty product in general. The PWB almost always calls it like it is, It usually never has a majority unreasonable viewpoint on a wrestler, angle, backstage official, or so on.

I remember this place being something I could call home when I would associate myself with other communities and eventually go "Wow, I really don't belong here at all with these crazy, insane people."

Definitely. As a kid I always liked smark favorites for some reason, probably because they're usually smaller guys. I started visiting this board around freshman year and almost immediately started loving people like Punk because "omg he knows so many moves". My brother was like "wtf are you talking about? Knowing a bunch of moves doesn't make you good." Then I would make fun of Cena for his 5 MOD.

This board made me hate everyone that was generic and boring in the ring, a thought that had never crossed my mind until I saw people discussing it here. Before I used to be entertained by the whole show, but now I find everything to be a toilet break unless it has someone I like. Again, a habit that only developed because I saw people say that.

I honestly don't regret the fact that I found this place while I was ever so clearly impressionable. I just wish I hadn't let myself get so jaded and ruin something I always loved.

Yes but it changes my perspective on the user, not the WWE itself.

But I must admit, I do really enjoy coming to this place, one of the best things about the PWB is that the community doesn't take itself seriously unlike other wrestling forums out there and there are a lot more characters here too.

This something that I agree with.

I didn't start coming to PWB when I was an impressionable youngster, but when The Rock came back in 2011.

I came here for discussion about the product, but then all the behind the scenes stuff kinda made me jaded toward something I just wanted to have fun with.

I feel most people here have more fun in complaining than watching the actual product.

The common excuse is that they watch in the hopes that it will get better, as if that will happen after so many years of the same complaints.

What I think is that these complainers are just habitual watchers and can't take themselves away from the product because they've been watching for so long.

And this doesn't just apply to wrestling, but to movies, TV shows, and video games as well. People continue to consume this media in the hopes that it will get better, but in actuality they're just habitual consumers who can't move on.

I can understand giving time to something hoping it'll improve, but not months upon months.

I remember I was a huge fan of the Walking Dead. Seasons 1 and 2 were awesome to me. I was hooked. Then season 3 happened and it killed my interest in the show. I decided to continue watching, thinking maybe it'll get better, but it didn't. So, I stopped watching it. I only took a few episodes for me to make my decision and I'm so glad I decided to stop watching. I couldn't even imagine continuing to watch it and just complaining about it every week.

Why torture myself? Just stop watching. Take a break. That's what I did. Then, a few friends who are religious watchers of the show told me this character Negan appeared and to give it another shot. So, I did and I loved Negan. Every scene he was in was intense as hell and I loved that. So, I came back and watched it for a few weeks, but I'm not gonna devote an hour to watch a show for one character. That and it failed to maintain my interest, so I stopped watching gain and haven't even considered coming back to it since. Again, it just doesn't make any kind of sense to watch it if I don't enjoy it.

Honestly if it wasn't this board and the chance to discuss wrestling on here, laugh at the smarks, laugh at the memes and the ridiculousness and terribleness of current WWE, I wouldn't even watch WWE at all anymore.

Like, I seriously wouldn't even bother to turn on the show. There isn't one single redeemable thing that WWE is doing right now imo with the exception of them having a number of very talented individuals who can have a great match or do something interesting. But everything else about the product is shit and has been for quite a few years now.

This place at least gives me somewhere to come to read about what's going on or talk about pro wrestling.

The biggest thing that ruined the "surprise" (though not "ruin") from here was the proposal. Ppl here were talking for months and i was hoping for so long that it wouldn't play out so horribly.....it was horrific. What made it worse was ppl on fb actually bing surprised and so happy. I mean there are others like promoting jinder because india, x return, and how long lesnar will hold title etc, but they were just eh. The proposal was just cringeworthy clnsidering how long it was "rumored"

Since I was getting the Wrestling Observer back then, yes, I did know a lot of the shit that was going on behind the scenes. The Dirt Sheets isn't an Internet thing, lol

But to answer your question, no, the backstage news doesn't effect me. What does effect me and wrestling, IMO, is that there are too many eyes on indie people now, so when they get called up to the WWE, the fans want those guys to get a good push, when in reality the WWE needs people to do jobs, but since they keep getting these big indie stars, nobody should be losing, and they are.

Look at Mike Bennett and The Club for examples. If it wasn't for the Internet, a lot of these guys wouldn't be known as much, and thus people wouldn't be bitching about them losing on TV to get others over. Nobody bitched about The Headbangers putting guys over, that was their job. If they had come in today, people would be pissed because they WOULD know them and be excited for them to go to the WWE.

I guess the Bushwhackers would be a better example since I'm old enough to remember watching them as The Sheepherders and were a great fucking team, but were jobbers in the WWF, which upset me because kayfabe was still alive them and it felt really strange to see him as The Bushwhackers after seeing them legit (not really, lol) trying to kill people in matches.

tl;dr -

People are too familiar with too many indie talents that they, the WWE, can't find people to do jobs and it leads to really shitty 50/50 booking, and I blame the Internet a lot for that.

But how to you fix this? Use your fucking lower NXT talents to put people over on TV. One, you save bigger match ups and don't waste them on TV. Second, you help get newer people like The Club or Mike Bennett over by showing their move sets, personality and help them become more establish. And last, but not least, you get the fresh NXT guys to become better working in front of cameras and crowds, better at working in the ring, and give them a chance to maybe get over on their own.

But they don't do that. They have an entire roster in NXT full of guys that they can call up to do jobs and get people over. And I'm not talking about redDDragon or KENTA or anyone like that, those are the guys that should come up and beat guys like Lars Sullivan, Montez Ford, Tino Sabbatelli, but mostly people that I don't even know the names of that are not even on NXT yet. These are the guys you should bring on the road to do jobs for your "new" stars like The Club, Mike Bennett, Bobby Roode, ect to get them over with the causal fans.

No. Bad wrestling ruined wrestling. I've been reading spoilers since 2001. Well. Dirtsheets. I mean I didn't go crazy cause nobody forced anyone to read anything and they still don't. But I enjoyed wrestling until Benoit did his deed. It was fine for a year or so after but the Nexus thing really killed it.

It has hurt it. Payoffs don't feel as big and it is harder to get invested in characters.
Knowing plans ahead of time makes the journey to get there seem so by the numbers, like everyone is just going through the motions instead of telling unique stories.

Plus knowing certain wrestlers are bloody berks in real life makes it harder to become invested in their characters for me.
